A quick guide to choosing drawer slides

Choosing cabinet sprinters isn’t as straightforward as it sounds – there is no “one size fits all” approach. With different materials to consider, different mounting positions, and many different lengths, it’s important to make sure you’re getting the right one before you buy.

This is the reason why we have put together a comprehensive manual for selecting cabinet sprinters, and what you might want to accept before shopping.

Wooden slides

Prior to the emergence of more current plastic and metal cabinet slide designs, office and furniture manufacturers only used wooden slides. Built in wooden slats, these devices work like horizontal rails on which the drawers rest and slide. count on the closet or Drawer slides front, guides can also be installed on the slides to help guide the movement of the drawers when they are opened and closed.

The use of wooden slides in furniture and office rooms requires a creation of accuracy and assembly to allow smooth development of the furniture without being excessively loose or excessively close.

While it’s difficult to get the right fit, it leads to a finished drawer that doesn’t require any additional hardware or mask components. However, despite the aesthetic value of using wooden slides, the problem of getting a balanced fit of the drawer, including restrictions on extension, i.e. full extension is not not possible without sacrificing stability and the propensity to stick, especially in sticky conditions, often makes them less suitable for use than different types of cabinet slides.

Ball Bearing Drawer Slides

One of the most common types of drawer slides is the needle bearing. As the name suggests, needle bearing drawer slides are defined by the use of ball bearings. They contain small metal balls inside the rails which reduce friction and therefore allow the drawers to open and close more easily. Metal Roller Cabinet Slides can include one-way or two-way movement. Anyway, all of them have ball bearings in the rails.

It is important to note that needle bearing drawer slides are often categorized as center mounted or under mounted, depending on their intended use. Center-mounted needle bearing drawer slides are designed for use in the center of drawers. Under-mounted drawer slides, on the other hand, are designed for use on the edges of drawers.

There are different kinds of drawer slides. Three of the most common types are center-mounted, under-mounted, and needle-type bearings. If you are looking to buy new drawer slides, you might like to choose the right type. Some applications require center-mounted drawer slides, while others require under-mounted drawer slides, both of which can be found in needle bearing styles.

Fixing positions

The location of the drawer slide once affixed. Generally, if the slide can be a needle bearing slide, it will attach to the side of the drawer, but if the slide can be a lower fixed roller, they will naturally be attached to the bottom of the drawer. All our slides have multiple holes for easy assembly taking into account the dimensions of the frame.

An important factor to consider when installing drawer slides is the location of the slides when they are attached to the drawer unit. If this is often done incorrectly, the charging capacity will not be preserved or worse, the device will fail. Please see the following graphic below which explains the different combinations for mounting a drawer slide

What mounting method?

Metal cabinet slides come in three basic types: side mount, undermount, and focus mount. the amount of space between your drawer box and therefore the opening of the cabinet will affect your decision. If you are replacing existing slides, you should keep the type you have, as the drawer is designed for specific clearances intended for this type of slide. If you are building new, you have the freedom to set up according to your needs. Read on to learn more about the three different mounting methods.

What motion features are available?

Cabinet slides are accessible with three essential movement strengths: auto-close, soft-close, and push-open (now referred to as “touch trigger”). A few types of cabinet slides of course incorporate a particular highlight of movement, while others simply offer it as an alternative, as pictured below.

Automatic closing

Self-closing means the drawer will close on its own when it reaches the last few inches of travel. In the hustle and bustle of preparing a meal, it’s easy to leave the drawers open slightly, or close them too tight and retrieve them. This is where a self-closing zipper will step in and obediently correct the error. The fundamental self-closing slide closes the cabinet unexpectedly, either with a discretionary spring system, as on the extension models, or with a Track, which is naturally incorporated epoxy blades.

Soft-Close

To avoid a noticeable thud after closing, models with soft closing use a damping instrument that allows the end of the cabinet to be pushed back inside the last few centimeters. Not only does this help stop unnecessary noise and movement of drawer contents, it also helps extend drawer life by reducing wear and tear.
